I used to be a young ornothologist which I hope I've spelt correctly. I got a badge and a bird book and used to attend meetings every Friday afternoon at my school.
I was quite young but I can still point out a buzzard from a kite. In those days people didn't have mobile phones - I'm serious, so we never had any nasty scares of ringtones and flashing cameras frightening our feathered friends away.
However, there's a new piece of software that means you can own a mobile phone and bird watch at the same time.
cCam is a 'camera capture program' that works by switching off the flash and shutter sound effects of your mobile's camera so you can nature watch and take photographs without destroying the peaceful atmosphere.
It's a nice idea that needs further testing as it doesn't run smoothly on all supported devices at the moment. But don't let that stop you from trying it.
